I struggled for many, many years listening and trying to hear people. Especially if I've been for a swim or been diving or in high pitch sounds like in crowds - say going to a concert. I do struggle to hear the person next to me - the wife will say or such and such or my friend will say such and such and I'm trying to read their lips and so I'm not saying what? ay?
Now with the new hearing aids of the paradise I can say yes that's fantastic isn't and I can hear crystal clear what they're saying. Once I was introduced to my doctor, Julian Holland, my surgeon, he introduced me to Nigel. Nigel put me in the chamber, the Tardis I call it, and the hearing. And he said, "Oh my gosh, your hearing loss is very bad." I said, "Can you help me?" And Nigel said, "Yes."
I needed to do something with my hearing because with my children, with my toastmasters and also with my presentations I do - I'm also a celebrant - and it's nice to be able to keep your voice down at a lower pitch and not yell too loud.
I've also found if someone's doing a presentation, I have to sit to the front of the room so I can hear the people. Now I can sit at the back of the room and I can hear them crystal clear.
One thing about I like about with Nigel, he get he got on to me and he said, "I can remotely support you wherever you want my help." He was away on holiday and he said, "Give me a call. I'll have my laptop with me. I can remotely fix your hearing aids or adjust them for better for you to have less problems.
"It's incredible how our little phone call, one small phone call, and he said, "Leave with me. How's that?" And the remote, I said, "That's fantastic."
One of the main features I enjoy is the comfort of them. And I find them, I don't even know I've got them on. Several times I've got into bed and said, "Oops, better take the hearing aids out." I don't know they're there. I
I'm coming up 69, nearly 70, and I'm finding that they have given me a the best quality of life that I've been looking for.
